The Honda Unicorn was among the most important bikes for the Japanese two-wheeler giant in our two-wheeler market and was among the products that helped it to establish itself in India. After a successful run spanning more than a decade, it was taken off in late 2014 as it was replaced by the Unicorn 160. But demand for the Honda Unicorn prevailed in the market, and in fact dealers started charging a premium for the last stock models. Honda hadn’t seized production of the Unicorn as it was still manufacturing it for export models. Understanding that the Honda Unicorn was still desired for especially in the rural market, the Japanese two-wheeler giant relaunched the Unicorn at the 2016 Auto Expo.
Cosmetically or mechanically no changes have been made to the Unicorn and it continues to be offered with the same colour options too. In terms of design, the styling of the Honda Unicorn is conservative which is understandable as it is been targeted for mature buyers who prefer subtle looking machines. The Honda Unicorn is powered by a 149cc, air-cooled motor developing 13.2PS of power and 12.8Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed gearbox and cycle parts remain similar. Honda hasn’t revealed prices for the Unicorn yet but expect it to be priced under Rs 70,000 ex-showroom Delhi for the base variant.
